JAMIL MEHDAOUI
Born in August 1961 in Strasbourg France, from a Moroccan father and a french mother, he grew up in Casablanca Morocco, living in France since 1980, in Paris for 30 years.
Architect, currently pursuing the practice and theory of architecture by working as researcher/artist specializing in questions concerning what, how, why and where of inhabiting the threshold between real and virtual worlds. Research about the culture and practice surrounding the convergence of digital media, the built environment (natural, urban) and architectural space, projects that invent and deploy experimental infrastructures for the engagement of material and immaterial spaces.
Trying to better understand what it actually means to make architecture. Architect working on space as an artist, on ephemeral installations, from conception phase to realisation: Works on gallery scale installations to multimedia projects at the scale of a territory.
Today designing space and exploring the abstract side of animation while immersed in Virtual Reality using emerging tools like Oculus RiftS, the Oculus plate-forme, softwares like Quill, TiltBrush, AnimVr. Diving in virtual space, evolving in it. That choice of direct production in immersion, of an “artisanal” approach in an artistic field dominated by technology aims, by going towards the unknown to let new horizons emerge, marking out this abyss, its definition, its structure, the understanding of the laws which govern it and those which do not apply, its generation, its limits, around three main axes, mimesis, emptiness, spatial textures.
